1,3-butadiene is a basic monomer for the production of various polymer compounds. Nowadays, the main amount of 1,3-butadiene, approximately 95% of entire production, is recovered as by-product of pyrolysis during production of ethylene. Produced amount of C4 hydrocarbons and butadiene is dependent on the nature of feedstock and severity of the pyrolysis. Based on the the world market development analysis, it starts to be obvious that, in the future, butadiene demand will grow faster than it will be possible to cover by capacity increase or optimization of pyrolysis units. New, alternative methods of 1,3-butadiene production, in which butadiene would be the main product are being nowadays searched for. Catalyst preparation according to literature based data and a comparison of the catalysts prepared, as well as basic process characterization of oxydehydrogenation of butane-butene mixture are basic subjects of this study.
