Popis
Triglycerides are a very valuable renewable feedstocks for production of automotive fuel components as they have relatively high energy content in comparison with other renewable energy raw naterials. Traditionally they are used in the production of fatty acid methyl esters (FAME), i.e. biodiesel. The increasing demand for biofuels dictates increased raw material and energy efficiency and enhanced economic, environmental and social sustainability. In this respect, replacement of homogenous catalysts by heterogenous ones plays an important role. Hence, new alternatives to the current FAME production using homogenous basic are intensively sought. In this chapter, we try to review the main research activities focused on the application of heterogenous catalysts for transformation of triglycerides into renewable (green) fuel components.
