Manufacture of TAME from pyrolysis C5 fraction using the skeletal isomerization of linear pentene

TAME i sone of the most perspective refining ethers, it is an oxygen additives to petrol. It reduces emissions CO and unburned hydrocarbons in the exhaust. TAME is produced by etherifying the C5 fraction of the pyrolysis. The reaction is reversible, the termodynamic equilibrium isn´t shifted towards the product, so the etherification yields per pass are not high. Increase the yield of TAME is possible by skeletal isomerization of linear pentenes in the etherification raffinate and recycle isomerate back to etherification, or processing of isomerate in the second degree of etherification. The assessment of the effect of skeletal isomerization of raffinate to the overall yield of TAME in the etherification C5 fraction of pyrolysis it was the main objektive of this work. The feed for the laboratoř synthesi sof TAME in this work was pure 2-methyl-2-butene (model experiment) or pyrolysis C5 fraction which contains about 25wt.% of reactive isoamylenes ( 2-methyl-2-butene and 2-methyl-1-butene). The catalyst was a sulfonated styrene divinylbenzene kopolymer –Amberlyst 15, the reaction temperature was 60-80°C. The composition of the reaction mixture was nearly chemical equilibrium, when the feed was pure 2-methyl-2-butene alike as pyrolysis C5 at 60°C. The conversion of reactive isoamylenes in the C5 fraction was 67%, the selektivity to TAME was 99,5%. The kontent of reactive isoamylenes in raffinate efore skeletal isomerization was 12,5wt.%. Compostition of C5 olefin in final reaction mixture after isomerization was nearly equilibrium, when condition were: catalyst – Ferrierite, temperature = 350-400°C, W/F = 1h-1. The kontent of reactive isoamylene was 26,8wt.% when the reaction temperaturae was 350°C and 25,9wt.% at 400°C.
