Research and development activities have been the basic business activity of the company since its founding in 1952. After its privatization in 1995 the company continuously follows a long tradition of research and development of inorganic technologies. Since 2000, when the company became a central research department of Unipetrol based on decision of the sole shareholder, the research activities have been extended to the field of refinery and petrochemistry. Significant activities expansion was possible due to the organizational incorporation of highly advanced research institutes of Chemopetrol, a.s. and Kaučuk, a.s. into the structure of the Research Institute of Inorganic Chemistry.
ORLEN UniCRE a.s. is able to solve complex research tasks from working out literature and patent reviews, through laboratory and pilot testing, proposing the technology design and evaluating its economic effeciency to carrying out the expert supervision of the outcome implementation. For important research projects, ORLEN UniCRE a.s. is ready to prepare and submit an application for public support, and in case of success to guarantee the fulfillment of all requirements of relevant legislation, that is connected with drawing the public support for science and research.
The main goals of ORLEN UniCRE a.s. are scientific and research activities, which are focused on key directions of chemical technologies - the processing of fossil and renewable resources to advanced fuels, important intermediates and chemicals.
Research activities are focused on:
- applied and basic research in the area of industrial chemistry and in areas of real use of renewable raw materials
- innovations of chemical technologies aimed at increasing their effectivity, safety and lowering the impacts on environment
- application of research and development results within solution of joint projects with industrial companies
